Botanical name: Phyllanthus niruri
This herb is used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine to treat liver and gallbladder problems, including gall stones. It is known to lower blood pressure and stabilise blood sugar levels.
Modern trials have indicated that Stonebreaker, also known as Chanca Piedra, may reduce levels of urinary calcium and kidney stone formation. This herb has a long history of use as a natural treatment for kidney stones.
Caution: Stonebreaker may lower blood sugar levels, and may interfere with blood sugar control during and after surgery. Chanca Piedra may slow blood clotting and increase the risk of bleeding, particularly in people with bleeding disorders. Stop using Chanca Piedra at least 2 weeks before a scheduled surgery.
If you have diabetes watch for signs of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and monitor your blood sugar carefully.
